Our rescue story

Harmany Acres was born from a deep love for animals and a simple dream: to create a safe haven in Sault Ste. Marie where vulnerable animals can heal, thrive, and share joy with visitors of all ages.

How our haven began

We purchased our farm in the spring of 2025, initially caring for pet chickens and ducks for our grandchildren, along with horses belonging to our daughter that needed a home. Word quickly spread across Northern Ontario, and before long, we were regularly asked to take in animals facing neglect or poor health. Despite the high costs of nourishment and veterinary care, seeing these resilient creatures recover and flourish in our happy place makes every moment worthwhile.

Healing hearts and gentle souls

Every resident at Harmany Acres has a story. Guests quickly fall in love with Rapunzel, our gentle miniature rabbit who delights visitors young and old. We also recently welcomed Olephia, a sweet miniature horse who is settling in before joining our other horses. These precious creatures find comfort, safety, and affection here every day, offering heartfelt moments to everyone who stops by to cuddle a bunny or hold a guinea pig.

Weathering Northern Ontario winters

Northern Ontario winters bring freezing temperatures and heavy snow, presenting our biggest challenge each year. All donations directly support the daily care, medical treatment, and feeding of our rescues, ensuring their shelters remain warm and safe through the coldest months. Guests can also help by purchasing and donating bags of feed (please check with us before feeding) or inquiring about our upcoming animal sponsorship programme.

"Visiting Harmany Acres was a wonderful experience for our whole family. Seeing how much love and dedicated care these rescue animals receive makes it such a special place for our community."
